Sunday Lunch | Skylon

Sunday 11th October 2015

For a Sunday luncheon catching up with my female friends, Skylon is a place that cannot fail: setting on the first floor of the Royal Festival Hall, high ceilings flooded with light with superb Thames views from soaring windows, delightful staff, and a lovely pianist playing relaxing tunes at the background. It’s been a couple of years since I last visited Skylon and it remains a great place.

The foods are very well presented and inviting but sadly taste-wise they didn’t really hit the mark. Having said that, the set menu they often offer remain excellent value at £25–30 for three courses, including a glass of wine. Four options to choose from for each course (including vegetarian options), with clear and unfussy descriptions. Service was friendly but a bit slow at times; however, this seemed to have worked in our advantage, as we had plenty to catch up on before choosing our courses. If you wanted a quick business lunch, then perhaps the relaxed service would become somewhat annoying.

One added bonus for going to Skylon for Sunday lunch is definitely its location — it sets you up for a perfect Sunday afternoon strolling along the Thames riverbank, and enjoy all the wonderful things that South Bank can offer.
